What is Zeolite ?

 

Zeolites are hydrated aluminosilicates characterized by high surface areas and high cation exchange capacities.

There are more than 40 types of natural zeolite minerals.

Clinoptilolite (from the Heulandite group) is the most common and suitable natural zeolite type for commercial and industrial applications.

More than 90% of the world's zeolite production is clinoptilolite.
 

Zeolite is a great option for mixing with
crumb rubber or other infill options.

Application

Water Filtration -  Zeolite Sand - Swimming Pools

Zeolite is used as a pool filtration media and filters much finer than regular filter sand. The Zeolite increases the efficiency of swimming pool chemical thus reducing maintenance times.

Benefits of Zeolite as a filter media include - 

• a reduction in chloramine formation which reduces pool odour, eye and skin irritation.
• a reduction in backwash cycles due to its superior contaminant holding capacity. This in turn reduces water wastage by up to 50%. Less back washing means reduced power costs, extended pump life and less chemicals being washed away (on average it should be twice as long between backwashes).
• The "buffering" capacity and cation-exchange capabilities and reduction of chemicals used for pH control.
• Zeolite will last you 8-10 years unlike sand which requires replacement every 4-6 years.
